This is the story of Liz + Will and their NYC winter solstice wedding at Lafayette Grand Bakery. Intimate, magical, dark, light, warm, and elegant.
They gathered at Washington Square Park just as the sun began to set and the city started to twinkle. Cozy, in the heart of the city, in the middle of winter. Huge smiles and warm hugs to greet their loved ones. Doughnuts and a box of jo to fill their cups, steam rolling out and spilling into the chilly air. Dressed in vintage and cozy attire to keep warm: a fur hat and stole for her and a feather in his hat. Lovers from the North. City people, night people. Artists, musicians. Ready to wed in a way that incorporates so many pieces of their story. A celebration that reflects a beautiful image of who they are together.
Warm and tucked away under Lafayette Grand Bakery, they spoke their vows. She wore her grandmothers’ vintage diamond earrings and garter. He wore his grandfather’s pocket watch and a vintage suite and shoes. Surrounded by flowers from their farm in Maine and the NYC flower district, arranged by the Bride and their families. Stringed melodies filled the air. They turned to the North, South, East, and West as they received blessings. Candles, filling the space, danced and flickered throughout the night. Each guest was given hand made heart shaped wool hand warmers to keep them cozy as they left the celebration. The night ended in clinking, cheers, and laughter.
They gathered the following night to continue their celebration. All of their loved ones packed into Holy Fangs Recording Studio for an intimate reception in Brooklyn. They night was filled with live performances. Music, Zebra cakes, and champagne to end their weekend with a bang.
From the Bride: My husband and I are farmers, the winter is our off season, and we both grew up in farthest most northern regions of the country, me in Alaska and him in Maine. For both of us light and fire in the winter was always such a celebration, especially around winter solstice. Besides our home in the country, we are city people, night people, artists, and musicians spawned from NYC where winters are a whole different beast. Our wedding became a mix of all of those things, our traditions and celebrations, our roots and the lives we then created from our roots together.
